Viewpoint of Mark Cadwallader, Creation Moments Board Chairman
I am working on this letter while on a road trip, taking my son from our home in Texas to a Bible college in California. Yes, September is back-to-school time! It’s also a time for groans from some kids, excited chatter from many others, and sighs of relief from many moms! Whether you send your children to public school, private school or homeschool them, this is the time of year when kids are once again being given the intellectual tools they will use for the rest of their lives.
Sadly, though, in most schools – even in some homeschool curriculum – children are also being taught lies. They are being told things in direct opposition to the Bible. And I’m not just talking about in the science classroom. Evolution is being taught in virtually every classroom – from English and math to social studies and history. The indoctrination of our precious children begins in the earliest grades and follows them through high school and then to college. And don’t think for one minute that your children are safe when you send them to Christian schools and colleges. Very few of these institutions have stayed true to the Word of God. Most of them teach evolution as fact!
God wants us to teach our children about Him. The training of children is primarily the responsibility of the parents. As the Bible tells us in Exodus 10:2: “And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD.” Though this passage pertains to the teaching of history, it certainly sets an example that teaching about God’s supernatural involvement in His creation is the responsibility of the parents.
As a parent myself, I do whatever I can to get each school year off to a good start. This is why I am so excited about the terrific resource I will tell you about later in this letter. This is also why I’m so blessed to be part of a ministry that has been used by God to teach young people why the Bible is trustworthy, especially in the area where it is most under attack – science!
