For many people, “science” seems to have replaced Zeus as the head of the pantheon of gods! In the last year alone, how many times have you heard the phrase “follow the science”? What I find most interesting is how fast “science” keeps changing!
Lockdowns work! OK, well not really.
Schools should be closed! Well, actually maybe not.
Mental health is not as important as doing everything we can to avoid the virus! But OK, we see that suicides and drug use have skyrocketed.
Just wait for the vaccines! Even so, better keep wearing masks and social distancing.
Hydroxychloroquine should not be made available! OK, we see now that it has helped a lot of people and countries that have used it and other preventatives.
We MUST use this inflated count of cases and deaths! Well, OK, we really did over-inflate the accounting with the testing and ‘co-morbidity’ reporting changes. No wonder it’s been a light flu season!
The flow of information and debate gets censored – until a politicized media is ready to discuss it. That’s because only certain people and authorities are allowed to determine the “science”.
Here’s a good rule of thumb I have seen repeated many times – including in the area of Creation Science: Check what is being censored by the world, and you are likely on track to determine what is actually true! The Bible tells us as much when it says, for example, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12). Or “The friendship of the world is enmity with God” (James 4:4).
The “god of this world” is the devil, and he is a master of deceit. The Bible teaches that the world has an interest in covering up the truth of God. In the Creation vs. Evolution debate, this has been our experience for many years as we proclaim the biblical truth that the sin-sickness of society comes from the fundamental depravity of man.
What we have seen this past year on a grand scale is the moneyed interests of Big Tech, Big Media, Big Pharma and Big Government at work. People are not really “following the science” at all. Rather, they are demonstrating their “will to power”. The depravity of mankind – our self-serving sin and irrationality – is on display. It is precisely why we all need the Savior, Jesus Christ!
Yes, even science, which is supposed to be and claims to be above bias – is tainted by a driving “will to power”. Even philosophers admit that self-interested pride, greed, envy, lust and hate are what really drive people. The Bible teaches that sin taints all human endeavors, and that, of course, includes science.
It is interesting to note the similarities with Climate Change in the current embrace by politicians of the pandemic to stoke fear and suppress freedoms. Damaging executive orders in the name of a “Green New Deal” have been written to capitalize on an environmental “crisis”, and this is right on the heels of the current health crisis. After all, “Don’t you see how bad this health crisis is? We need a similar ‘crisis response’ to Climate Change!”
Like Evolutionism, the responses to Climate Change and the Coronavirus Pandemic are declared to be “settled science” … end of discussion. Both have captured the imagination of politicians, academic hierarchy and media elite, and are said to be so important as to require executive orders instead of a normal debated legislative process.
As I’ve quoted before from H.L. Mencken, “The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule it”. This is the goal of a current radical Islamo-Leftist alliance, two seemingly dissimilar worldviews which actually share an Anti-Christ ideology where “the end (displacing Christian Civilization) justifies the means” (even if “the means” includes deception, destruction of property, and killing). Indeed, in the name of creating a supposed utopia, whether it be a Communist State or an Islamic Caliphate, the zealots feel quite justified with any method to complete this “will to power”.
Saul Alinsky (1909-1972), the Marxist “Community Organizer” who became a hero and mentor to many of today’s political left, laid out his methods in his book, Rules for Radicals. Intimidation, he wrote, made the rest of the methods work and was the single most important operating principle. Indeed, “Intimidation” has been used for years with evolution, the foundation of Marxism. “You had better get on the bandwagon of evolution or be cut-off from all funding, your good job, and association with other scientists.” That kind of thing.
And we can note that “intimidation” is increasingly the mode of operation in American society, influenced by leftists and politicians who have studied Alinsky. The mass of people must be made to feel so frustrated, so lost, so hopeless and despairing in the current system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future, Alinsky taught. You can see how COVID fears, Climate Change fears, and street-rioting fears can all be tools to prep people for radical change. And we can see here the methodology of BLM and Antifa in their tactics of “intimidation”.
So what should we do in the face of all this intimidation and ridicule that’s so prevalent in today’s society? Well, we can understand what we are up against and not absorb the despair, frustration and ridicule being dished out! We can press-in to Jesus and His Word like never before! We can understand the spiritual warfare and pray and trust in the Lord. We can set our minds on whatsoever things are true, and honest, and just, and lovely, and virtuous, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). In so doing, we bring health to our mind and body!
The truth is becoming more and more important in our day of an increasingly aggressive political left with its basis in atheism and its control of so many public institutions. As Christians, we need to stand strong and boldly proclaim the Gospel. We also need to make it clear that we are the ones who are following the science found in Genesis and the rest of the Bible. May the Lord protect us all and give us courage in these challenging times!
