Dear Friend of Creation Moments,

“I am very much afraid that schools prove to be great gates of hell unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures, engraving them in the hearts of youth. Every institution in which men are not increasingly occupied with the Word of God must become corrupt.” – Martin Luther

Luther noted this about the human condition 500 years ago. Indeed, many of the great Colleges and Universities of America began as divinity schools, or were founded by different Christian denominations – Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, etc. We’ve written before about how such institutions have become hotbeds of evolutionary indoctrination and Marxism as well as other false philosophies. They’ve strayed from the revelation of the God of the Bible, becoming enamored with humanist intellectualism.

Prestigious Ivy League Columbia University was founded originally as King’s College in 1754 on the grounds of Trinity Church in New York City under the auspices of the Church of England. This is where the recent antisemitic, Palestinian-terrorist-friendly “encampments” began. The school motto in Latin at the bottom of their coat of arms translates to “In Thy light shall we see light”, a quotation of Psalm 36:9. But the scriptural aspirations of its founders and early days have long been extinguished. The University became the home of the “Frankfurt School” of Marxism in the 1930s, with its advocacy for a Marxist “long march through the institutions” instead of outright communist revolution. And advocacy for its invention of “Critical Theory”, which expanded the Marxist definition of so-called “oppressed” and “oppressor” groups far beyond the classic “proletariat” and “bourgeoisie”.

From this basis, modern society is now beset with “Critical Race Theory” and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) affecting all manner of institutions. This is a return to “scientific racism” through reverse-racism. And it makes what were formerly considered sexual perversions into “oppressed” peoples. One of Columbia University’s famous Marxist professors was Herbert Marcuse who wrote the influential sexual and gay liberation book Eros and Civilization. Included in its preface is his summary statement for a modern applied Marxist revolutionary practice, “The fight for Eros is the political fight.”¹

Today we are seeing increased antisemitism and a championing of Islamic terrorism growing out of these same culturally influencing “institutions of higher learning” – because certain Muslem nations and peoples are somehow an “oppressed” group. But the fact is that Marxist radicalism has joined forces with Islam in what is being called the Islamo-Leftist alliance. You might ask how does the “woke-left”, who are celebrating the LGBTQ “pride month” of June (now LGBTQIA+, adding Intersectional, Asexual, and all the other sexual identities) cooperate so closely with Islam and its submission to Sharia law? Mutual hatred of biblical truth is the answer.

Of course, antisemitism is wrong on many levels, both in terms of fomenting hate instead of love, and because of the special place of the Jewish people in the plan of God as we look at biblical revelation. God covenanted with Abraham on the basis of faith. And in partial fruition of this faith principle, He covenants with all people on the basis of faith. Through the “seed” of Abraham has come the Messiah. Jesus Christ, the once-for-all sacrificial lamb of God, can bring all people to God through faith. This gospel “is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth” (Romans 1:16). See Genesis 12:1-3; 13:14-15; 15:5-18; Romans 4:3-25; Galatians 3:13-14, 26-29 for more on this extension and blessing of Abraham to all people. Our Creator is a God of freedom, and if we believe Him, we have a tremendous blessing – the blessing of His imputed righteousness! There is more in store, the Bible reveals, including a difficult time for Israel, for Jerusalem, and for the Jewish people. But the Lord’s covenants with all His people are in process!

As we have noted before in these letters, there is a “Tower of Babel”-type unification of mankind – a coming together in order to magnify people apart from their Maker. Mankind has a desire to rebel and to do away with the one true God. Evolutionism is one manifestation of this desire. And so is Marxism and Humanism, and all sorts of “…corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Peter 1:4). This is the direction of drift, downhill, and thus Martin Luther recognized institutions needed to be “increasingly occupied with the Word of God”. Don’t just take a motto from Scripture, as at Columbia University, and forget about what it really means for decades and decades!

Contrary to what many Christians may think, biblical Christianity does not teach simple accommodation of humanistic multi-culturalism such as is on display with open borders and at the United Nations. The Bible warns against it (e.g., Psalm 144:11-12). There comes a point when multiculturalism is simply overwhelming to a culture to maintain a basis in biblical principle and morality. Factor that in with what the Bible prophesies to be “a great falling away” in a run-up to the end times (2 Thessalonians 2:3), and we have what is happening in Europe and in much of the Western World – where we see the Islamic and globalist takeover of a formerly Christian consensus.

God is calling Christians to repent, as we discussed last month. And that includes to repent of whatever lethargy and apathy we may have toward gospel outreach. Creation messaging is part of good evangelism and “pre-evangelism”, which is why the term creation-evangelism came into play years ago. The creation message is very much intertwined in the Bible with gospel outreach – as we’ve discussed before in these letters. This is why we are so excited about our growing opportunities to partner in missionary radio to areas of the world hungry for the good news of our Creator and Redeemer-God!
