Ant Antics!

Proverbs 30:25
“The ants [are] a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer…”

Proverbs 30:25 uses the word “people” in referring to ants. In the Hebrew, this word is the very same word commonly used throughout the Old Testament for people, including the people of Israel. While this might at first seem strange, it is true that in many respects ants do seem like tiny people.

Ants AnticsAnts love to work and live in sunlight. They will spend hours clearing their little backyards of leaves and even plants and shrubs. Ants are also known to wander far from their local area. One scientist from the University of California tagged ants with colored dyes and then watched their meanderings. No matter how far they wandered, they didn’t seem to get lost. Then the scientist placed tiny ant blinders on the wandering ants. He discovered that when the ants couldn’t see their surroundings, they wandered aimlessly, obviously lost. This and other experiments have shown that ants have incredible memories.

Scientists have also marveled at the tricks used by ants to ruin picnics. One of the ants’ most interesting strategies is to climb a tree over a picnic and find a low hanging leaf situated over the picnic basket. The ant then proceeds to chew off the stem of the leaf and glide down into the sandwiches!

Read Proverbs 6:6 and 30:25 and see for yourself that Scripture is true, even when it talks about the world that science studies – and even about such details as ants!
