Broadcasting

Matthew 13:23
But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

In Bible times, much of the sowing of seeds would need to be done by hand. In some circumstances, seeds could be planted individually. For cereal crops, however, a great depth of soil is not required, so it would be easier to scatter large amounts of seed widely by hand. Our word in English for this is that the seeds are broadcast – in other words, cast or scattered widely.

It is interesting that Jesus used the analogy of this broadcasting of seed to describe the propagation of the Gospel. Broadcasting seed into different types of soil can be found in His Parable of the Sower in Matthew 13. It is from this broadcasting of seed, which is really the message of good news, that our other use of the word broadcasting is derived, as it refers to the dissemination of information by media, such as radio or television or the internet.

As I speak to you from a radio studio, I have no idea on what type of soil the seed of this word will land. Moreover, I can be judged by the quality of the seed that I broadcast – is what I say according to the true Gospel of the Bible?

Some of you will listen to this recording on various Christian radio stations or over the internet. Please pray for all such broadcasters, that we might honor God with our words and in so doing bring many listeners closer to God.

Prayer: Father God, may the truth of Your word go out from Christian broadcasting networks in great power as we seek to honor You, for the glory of Your Name. Amen.
