Genesis 1:24

“And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.”

A recent article in New Scientist claimed that “Evolution is making us sick”. The article’s author boldly proclaimed, “Evolution is behind the resurgence of head lice, bedbugs, rats and more.” We have already discussed the specific example of antibiotic resistance in a previous Creation Moment, but the New Scientist article broadens out that concept, saying, “Almost as soon as we started using penicillin to treat infections, DDT to kill mosquitoes and herbicides to destroy weeds, resistance began to emerge. The reason is simple: when we try to wipe out pests and pathogens, we put huge pressure on them to evolve or die.”

The article is, in fact, a lengthy example of the logical fallacy known as equivocation. This is where different meanings of the same word or phrase are deliberately confused. When we are referring to Darwinian evolution, we are talking about the spontaneous increase in information, which they claim has allowed, for example, ancestors of the apes to evolve into humans. But change due to external pressures, where certain traits are selected from a range of possible traits, is not Darwinian evolution. No example of such evolution is actually available. Adaptation and even speciation are observed facts. Not so with Darwinian evolution.

So, the author, in describing how the problems of sickness are being tackled, does not see the irony when he states, “Biologists are creating new ‘anti-evolution’ super-weapons.” In so doing, these biologists undermine the supposition of evolution.   Author: Paul F. Taylor

Prayer: Thank You, Father, that You have given us the truth in the Bible, against which we can measure everything else for truthfulness. Amen.
