Deuteronomy 6:7
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”

Christian parents are rightly concerned at some of the things taught to their children in public schools. They are concerned about their children being taught a different morality which is not a biblical morality. They are concerned that their children are not taught the truth about the theory of evolution, or about creation. And our answers frequently focus around persuading school districts to teach all views of origins, including the Bible, and for the right to withdraw our children from lessons on alternative moralities and lifestyles. Sometimes, we need to stop and think – are we just putting a small band-aid to cover a huge compound fracture?

We think that schools train our young people to live in the world. But when they get into the world of work, how many bosses do they find segregating their workers into age bands? The Bible speaks differently of education. “You shall teach [these commands] diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise” (Deuteronomy 6:7). It is we parents who are responsible for the education of our children, and one day we will be judged on how well we did this, or whether we handed the responsibility over to those who would not teach our children the righteous way to go. Let’s make sure our children are taught the truth from the beginning, and throughout their childhood.

Prayer: Lord, we bring our children before You and pray that You will help us to train them in the way they should go. Amen.
