Genesis 5:1-2

“This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.”

DNA study is clearly an important scientific subject. DNA testing has given us so much information these days, from family data to forensic science. With so much good science involved, a layperson can be confused by scientific reports that suggest that our evolutionary past can be investigated by DNA. If they are right about ancestry and forensic data, surely they must also be right about evolutionary data.

For example, a scientific report may refer to parts of human DNA that date back to links with evolutionary ancestors, hundreds of thousands of years ago. How do we respond?

The key to understanding the issue is to realize that parts of the DNA code are not date stamped. The evolutionary dates are obtained by interpreting the data with an evolutionary bias.

For example, it might be found that parts of our DNA match the DNA of other creatures, such as Neanderthals. Evolutionists believe that Neanderthals interbred with “modern’ humans 700,000 years ago, so those parts of our DNA which are considered Neanderthal must be 700,000 years old. We should add that we do not consider Neanderthals to be subhuman, or a different species. Nor do we accept that they were around 700,000 years ago. They are fully human and, hence, were descended from Noah and his family, which dates these aspects of DNA to less than 4,500 years. Biblical presuppositions lead to biblical answers, while unbiblical presuppositions lead to unbiblical answers.

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the abilities of so many scientists to see the truth. We pray that we might interpret what we know of the world according to biblical principles and foundations. Amen.
