The Less Frozen World of the Polar Bear

Genesis 8:22
“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

Nothing tugs at the heartstrings of global warming alarmists more than images of forlorn polar bears, sitting atop tiny pieces of ice, waiting for them to melt, leaving the poor bears to drown. Former vice president Al Gore has made much of such images in his work, citing the alleged drowning of four bears in 2004, presumably from exhaustion.

Yet, the well known photos are, at best, misleading. Many of them have been cropped, excluding other bears and ice rafts from the images. And the famous “drowned” bears probably didn’t drown at all. Even if they did, there have been no repeats of multiple bear drownings since 2004. The implication of Gore and others is that continued ice cap melting will cause the polar bear population to decrease, and perhaps these majestic animals could go extinct.

Dr. Susan Crockford has done a great deal of study on these bears. She has found that polar bear numbers are, in fact, increasing. She has also found that the bears are well used to very long swims and that this seems to be a natural part of their behavior. And, of course, even the melting of the polar ice cap is of dubious authenticity, as the ice coverage seems to have increased again in the last few years.

God reminds us in His word that: “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)

Prayer: Father God, we want to be good stewards of the world that You have placed us in. Thank You for Your good gifts to us. Amen.
