There’s Glory for You!

Matthew 5:37
“But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”

Image: Alice and Humpty Dumpty talking. “There’s glory for you!” said Humpty Dumpty.

“I don’t know what you mean by ‘glory'” Alice said.

Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. “Of course you don’t – till I tell you. I meant ‘there’s a nice knock-down argument for you!”

“But ‘glory’ doesn’t mean ‘a nice knock-down argument,'” Alice objected.

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what

I want it to mean – neither more nor less.”

This classic scene from Lewis Carroll’s Alice Through the Looking Glass aptly illustrates one of the flaws of the pseudo-intellectuals. It is that they might take a word and try to make it mean something different. Take the word “evolution”, for example. In one sense, evolution simply refers to the act of change. It could be said that this very creation ministry has evolved over the years! It is not the same as it was at the very beginning. However, we know that, biologically speaking, evolution refers to a specific kind of change. It refers to the way that creatures have supposedly changed from single-celled organisms to human beings. Yet these changes are not seen, by definition, because they are supposed to have taken millennia to achieve. Therefore, evolutionists will show you another example of biological change that occurs in a much shorter timescale, and say: “See! If this can evolve, then bigger evolutions can take place.” But the evolutionist is not comparing apples with apples. Different types of changes have different mechanisms and, therefore, there is no observable evidence for molecules-to-man evolution.

Thank You for Your wonderful word, Lord. We thank You that the words of Scripture are true, from Genesis to Revelation. Amen.
