Back to school – and for most of us, this means it’s back to more fear-and-conformity-inducing behavior and “group-think” with what we might call “COVID alarmism”. Other socially and spiritually unhealthy “isms” have invaded the public schools, including the long-running, fear-inducing indoctrination of “climate alarmism”. And, of course, the even longer running godless indoctrination of “evolutionism”.
So when we hear politicians say something like the quote in the following paragraph, we know they have a receptive audience from years of indoctrination at every level.
“We are surrounded by evidence of the climate crisis – fires out west, the heat waves, the floods – everywhere you look. Because of global warming, things are getting worse and worse. COVID was horrible, but if we do nothing on climate, starting within a few short years from now, each year will be worse than COVID, and each year will be worse than the previous year. It’s our time to act!” – A Prominent U.S. Senator
“Cunningly devised fables” are part of the “philosophy and vain deceit” which energize the world, the flesh and the devil. The Bible tells us that “the whole world lies in wickedness (in the power of the evil one)” (1 John 5:19).
Satan works to deceive and destroy humanity, the pinnacle of God’s creation. He does so even as he tempts mankind through our sin-nature, promising all kinds of evil pleasures and privilege. The devil tries to prevent us from accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, works to subvert spiritual fruit in our lives, and works to oppress and torment us at every hand. Fear-mongering and doom-saying are some of his favorite tools, utilized heavily by the world. And here is where the awareness of and readiness for spiritual warfare is essential. Fear and faith are opposite views about the future, spiritually rooted and greatly affecting our emotions.
Fear is a tormenting dread about the future. And fear is infused with death, so to speak. That’s why the fear-mongering about COVID has been so effective. Fear-mongers can actually refer to those who have died from COVID. But they can’t point to loss of life so easily when it comes to climate change.
Faith, on the other hand, is confidence about the future. And when it rests in God through Jesus Christ, it is infused with life! Think about it: “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2).
The Bible says our task as disciples of Jesus Christ is to “live by faith”, “and walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit”. And it tells us to grow our faith with the Scriptures because “faith comes…by the word of God.”
Consider what is called the “Soldier’s Psalm” – Psalm 91: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust” (vs. 1-2). This is such a tremendous faith-rest!
And consider the next verse: “Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler [the deceitful traps of Satan], and from the noisome pestilence”. This whole Psalm is full of allusions to spiritual warfare, of defeating adversaries, and of dwelling with God as dwelling inside a mighty fortress in the midst of that warfare. Indeed, the Psalm was a basis for Martin Luther’s great battle hymn for living the Christian life, a life involving spiritual warfare whether we know it or not, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”.
Praying Psalm 91 over something – as many Bible-believing people have done through the years – is to pray for protection and to pray against disaster in physical as well as spiritual warfare. And its use in the history of Christianity includes many miraculous deliverances for those who prayed it every day or in difficult circumstances.
Verse 13 says: “Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder [serpent]…and the dragon” – all symbols in Scripture of the devil. Note here more biblical evidence that the ancient world had familiarity with reptiles of the dinosaur variety. Men and dinosaurs have co-existed on planet earth, unlike evolution’s just-so-stories requiring millions of years.
Fear-mongering “climate change” and other eco-disasters for the sake of fame and fortune have been occurring for over 50 years. Wealth is redistributed from Green Energy projects and “carbon credits” to corrupt crony capitalists, bureaucrats and heads of state. All are supported by agenda-driven, greed-driven, group-think-driven “science”. Currently there is also science saying that the sun is far less active now than during the 1980s and 1990s, and that this should last until around 2050. Since the whole climate system is powered 99% by the sun’s energy, it looks to me that carbon could be irrelevant.
In 1970, Dr. Paul Ehrlich of Stanford University, author of the best-selling The Population Bomb, said that the oceans would all be essentially lifeless in a decade. He also said that America would be subject to water rationing by 1974 and to food rationing by 1980. But he wasn’t the only one making such ludicrous predictions. In 1989, the United Nations announced that global warming would result in floods that would wipe whole countries out of existence and cause lower Manhattan to be many feet underwater by the year 2000! However, earlier in the 1970s, an Ice Age was supposed to be here by the year 2000! This would cause the world to run out of food. In fact, we were told that there would be many mass starvations because of skyrocketing world population. Today – but for communist tyranny in places like Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea and the effect of COVID lockdowns in certain locales – mass starvation is unknown.
Fear sells policy and ideology. And fear will control people. Fear works against faith and freedom. So the key is to exercise faith over fear. Ultimately, we know Who holds the future! He is “the most High”, God Almighty, Creator and Redeemer, and He holds us in His bright and glorious future through Jesus Christ!
Let me close by putting in a plug for homeschooling and other alternatives to public education … and I also want to thank you for helping us spread the faith that is prohibited in public schools – the faith that can actually eliminate fear of every kind.
