Viewpoint of Mark Cadwallader, Creation Moments Board Chairman
We are in that very special time of year again. In America we prepare for Christmas by celebrating Thanksgiving! Thankfulness, by the way, is how we enter the “gates” that lead to God. (Psalm 100)
And at Christmastime we can certainly be thankful that “the Word was made flesh” so that we can have eternal life – forever with Him – in Beauty, in Glory! In spite of our post-Christian culture, in spite of whatever may be happening to us individually and corporately, we still have so much to be thankful for!
Have you ever thought about how creation is central to both the Thanksgiving message and the Christmas message?
I find it interesting that in Psalm 100 – which tells us to “enter into His gates with thanksgiving” and exhorts us to “come before his presence with singing” as well as to “serve the Lord with gladness” – that we can find the great and fundamental conflict between creation and evolution. In the third verse we read, “Know ye that the Lord he is God; it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves…” Creation did not create itself. God is our Maker! Both views, Creation and Evolution, are fundamentally religious, for they are assumptions about God. Yet, one assumption is claimed to be “scientific” (true knowledge) while the other is not. And so today in classrooms and in official media we have essentially religious propaganda clothed in the garb of “science” and presented as if it were “gospel truth”.
Christmastime brings the world back to a fundamental religious truth – grounded in a historicity that evolution can only dream of. The gospel message that Jesus came to earth to bring us salvation as Emanuel, God with us, has stood the test of time. The reliability of the gospel manuscripts and accurate historical critiques of Jesus and the Bible are strong evidence of the sort routinely upheld in courts of law.
The Bible says that the awesome Creator came as one of the most humble and helpless among us, a wondrously unique but every-day “miracle” within the very creation He established! What parent has not been touched at the birth of their child, peering in awe at the perfect little fingers and toes and other features of their newborn?
The birth of the baby Jesus, God the Son, in especially humble circumstances breaks through both the rebellious pride and the sinful estrangement human beings feel toward their Maker – “God with us”, as a little baby, given as one of us, so that we might be redeemed! Jesus embodies our humanity, though He is divinity! As the Bible says, “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.” (Colossians 2:9-10)
The problem is that false philosophies abound in a world in need of redemption, rebelling against its Maker. And indeed the Bible immediately prefaces the previous scripture with: “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” (Colossians 2:8)
We have written before about the evil excesses of false philosophies aligned with evolutionism. As long as evolution is believed to be true, it will be free to work its ill effects. It will feed unbelief, self-indulgence, destroy lives and encourage all kinds of evil in the name of forcing utopian dreams. Evolutionism is a false philosophy laboring to remove the influence of the biblical God.
If you want to cure the disease, you must get to the cause of the cancer – not just the symptoms. At Creation Moments, this is what we strive to do. We work with you to tear down this false philosophy – using all the tools of mind and spirit that our great God has given. And with your help we want to do so much more!
The message of Christmas is that the great Creator – who gave us so many beautiful and wonderful things we can be thankful for – has joined us in His creation to give us what we most desperately need. The truth is that Emmanuel, God with us, has entered into His creation in a lovingly intimate way. The lie, justified by evolution, is that God is unnecessary – and not with us at all. Please help us stand for His truth and expose the great lie of our day!
We thank you so much for your prayers and your giving. God bless you and hold you in His hand at this Christmastime and always!
