Genesis 3:20
And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.”

A report on a popular science website began with these words:

“Two hundred thousand years ago, the earliest shared ancestors of every living human on Earth rested their feet at a verdant oasis in the middle of Africa’s Kalahari Desert. Here, in a patchwork of now-extinct lakes, forests and grasslands known as the Makgadikgadi paleowetland, our greatest grandmothers and grandfathers hunted, gathered and raised families for tens of thousands of years.”

Studies of mitochondrial DNA have suggested, even to evolutionists, that all human beings are descended from a single female, which they refer to as the Mitochondrial Eve. Of course, the evolutionary Eve is believed to have lived hundreds of thousands of years ago. And now, further DNA testing leads evolutionists to suppose that this Eve, and her relatives, lived in what is now the Kalahari Desert.

Christian geneticist Dr. Robert Carter underlines the fallacy of the report. “One cannot take a phylogenetic tree of living individuals and treat it like a map,” Carter explains. “This has been known for a long time. Have they never heard of the Bantu expansion? Do they not know that aDNA puts Khoi-San-like people in Central Africa even though no living person there today carries those genotypes?”

The report is correct in suggesting that all human beings are descended from one female – but not for evolutionary reasons. She was called Eve, and the Bible says she was the “mother of all living”.

Prayer: We thank You, Father, that Your word is always true. Help us to show other people that they can trust Your word. Amen.
