“All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.”
A lot of people got very worried in 2012 when they heard that physicists were trying to recreate the Big Bang in the Large Hadron Collider. Hadrons are all pretty much of the same size, being a collective name for the various particles in an atomic nucleus – protons and neutrons, and a large ring device, 5½ miles across, was built to accelerate hadrons and make them crash into each other. The physicists themselves did little to dispel the anxiety, usually being patronizing to those worried people whose education in physics was less than theirs. Also, they were trying to use the experiment to look for a theoretical particle called the Higgs Boson, which many of them were euphemistically referring to as the God Particle because of its assumed importance at the Big Bang.
Well, the result was that they found that the Higgs Boson was a real particle – a boson being a particle that follows Einsteinian statistics. The experiment was declared a success, and the world did not come to an end. But neither did they recreate the Big Bang. They were never going to be able to do so because the Big Bang never happened – God told us how He made the universe in Genesis 1. But such interesting experiments are now considered too expensive, and a New Scientist article in 2019 has suggested that cheaper, smaller, plasma-based accelerators will take over. So – farewell, colliding hadrons.
