A Force of the Creator

19Apr

Dear Friend of Creation,

An old youth camp song I remember singing is titled Come to the Water. Its chorus has the phrase, “And Jesus said, ‘Come to the water, stand by my side. I know you are thirsty, you won’t be denied.’” The song captures biblical truths about the “living water” that God in Christ offers us!

Last month, I discussed our eternal paradise home and its similarities to Eden, the original pre-sin-infected creation of God for us. We saw how out of the throne of God comes “a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal” (Revelation 22:1).

Heavenly River of Life

And to this day, world-famous “gardens” try to recreate the incredible awe and appreciation for the beauty of nature that people, who are the “image of God”, are meant to enjoy as a gift from our awesome Creator. His own life-giving Personality of Perfect Love and Goodness makes our own appreciation of great beauty possible!

And the Bible also says, “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters…” (Isaiah 55:1). And, “In the last day, that great day of the feast (of Tabernacles - celebrating God’s dwelling with His people, and looking forward to the Messianic Age), Jesus stood and cried (loudly), saying ‘If any man thirst let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7:37-38). This text, mentioned last month as well, is one of the texts where Jesus decidedly declares His divinity. He offers to us, and indeed wants us, to “drink” of His divine energies – spiritual energies from the Holy Spirit that give “life” (hence, “living”).

The “energies” of God are that aspect of God’s life-giving power that connect Him to His creation and divinely impact us - like His grace that draws us, saves us, and instructs us (Ephesians 2:8, Titus 2:11-13). And like His demonstrations of miraculous power reported in the Bible and throughout history in various revivals and awakenings and other Christian experiences.

This flow of “energy” from God to us in the creation must, of necessity, interact with the forces of this physical world in order to be observed and experienced. As we celebrate Christ’s resurrection on April 20th, we can recall one such incident that took place at His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane just before His crucifixion. When Judas, with a band of soldiers and officers of the Pharisees and Chief Priest, approached Him with lanterns and weapons, Jesus identified Himself. And, “As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.” (John 18:6).

I believe this reaction from Jesus’ captors was more than simple awe at His willing vulnerability. The Greek phrase Jesus used to respond is "ἐγώ εἰμί" (ego eimi), which exactly translates "I am." Here was another clear statement and demonstration of His divinity for those familiar with God’s identification of Himself to Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3:14). And with that emphatic declaration came a manifestation of His power, a “force-field” that knocked people down – an “energy field” that interacted with physical bodies. How easily Christ could have escaped, but He let the fallen soldiers rise up and take Him, proving that He chose to freely give Himself up to the cross – for our sakes!

Albert Einstein who said, "The more I study science, the more I believe in God", and, “The (electro-magnetic) field is the sole governing agency of the particle”, also said, "We are slowed-down sound and light waves, walking bundles of frequencies tuned-in to the cosmos. We are souls dressed up in sacred biochemical garments, and our bodies are the instruments through which our souls play their music." And genius high-tech visionary inventor Nikola Tesla put it this way, “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.”

At the root of all things created, we get down to immaterial frequencies and vibrations - and these border on and interact with psychological and spiritual power! No wonder the man known as the father of media studies, who coined the phrase, “The medium is the message”, Marshall McLuhan, also said, “Electric circuitry is an extension of the nervous system”. (Understanding Media, 1964). There is an electro-magnetic (EM) “field” which touches on a psychological and spiritual “field” extending the human faculty, so that the “medium” both carries and also transcends the “message”.

Our physical bodies are affected by, and actually emit, an invisible electromagnetic field. We both emanate and receive the “medium” as well as the “message”. Non-verbal communication, passions, emotional intensity, high-impact visuals, images, and sound trigger hormonal electrochemical responses in our bodies which, because of the electron exchange, create magnetic fields. And because we are “alive” we are constant recipients of this activity! The EM field is what makes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) work, and all sorts of other high-tech imaging diagnostic equipment that has become available. In addition, the hormonal and neurotransmitter electrochemical reactions within our bodies can reinforce good behavior or lead to addictive and destructive behaviors, because there are emotional and physical “feel-good” or “feel-bad” attachments.

Clearly our personal experience and human history itself demonstrates that emotional, psychological, and spiritual media can be manipulated. Adolf Hitler with his frenzied speeches, and the Nazi propaganda machine, are one example. The reception of electromagnetic imaging by the electrochemical receptors of the body can either cause edification (build us up) or degeneration (tear us down with brainwashing or mass psychosis, for example). The Bible urges us to “Keep (guard) thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

Indeed, God’s Word is a spiritual “medium” of its wonderful “message”! It is a medium of the Holy Spirit. There are many proof-texts for this. And we are to imbibe both the medium and the message! The Bible builds us up with more than mere words (see 2 Tim 3:16, 2 Pet 1:21, Prov 4:20-22, 1 Cor 2:14, and Heb 4:12). Christ’s Resurrection, which we celebrate especially this month, reminds us of His power over all seen and unseen “fields” and of the wonderful future before us in our eternal home! We are invited to “come to the waters of life” and “drink”! But while we are here, we continue to proclaim biblical truth to our neighbors, our communities, and the world, in love – and without compromise.

In other ministry news, it is with great excitement that I announce our new website, premiering the week of April 20th in honor of the Resurrection! We’ve been working diligently to update and polish all internet “mediums” of our “message” to reach more demographics, especially Gen Z and Millennials, who are in many ways unreached with the creation message. It is only through your generosity that we are able to do these things! Thank you so much for being part of this great creation and evangelism commission which the Lord has given us! May God bless you at this special time of year.

Yours in Christ,Mark Cadwallader

P.S. This month, I’d like to highlight a book that answers the question, “Do miracles really happen?” In The Case for Miracles, Strobel uses his trademark investigative interviewer’s approach to examine whether the supernatural events of the New Testament pass for historical facts; if near-death experiences offer a glimpse into the afterlife; whether paranormal activity has any credibility; and more. Order yours and discover how, why, and when God still actively intervenes today!

Similarly, Bible-believing Christians are often asked, “Can't we just add evolution to the Bible? A Pocket Guide to Compromise is the perfect resource to equip yourself with simple, scientific, and biblical answers for any skeptic or curious Christian searching for answers!
