Dear Friend of Creation,
“Promise to give me LSD when I’m ready to go so I will die on a trip.”
So said Aldous Huxley (1894-1963) to his wife before his death in 1963. For Huxley, author of Brave New World (1932), and grandson of Thomas Huxley (1825-1895), the tenacious, determined defender and debater for evolution in its early years, life was officially and celebratedly “meaningless”.
Huxley’s commitment to a philosophy of meaninglessness went hand in hand with the family commitment to evolutionism. Aldous collaborated in his writings with his equally famous brother, Sir Julian Huxley (1887-1975) who, like his granddad Thomas (nicknamed “Darwin’s Bulldog”), was an influential evolutionary biologist and ardent defender of evolutionism in the popular press. Sir Julian wrote books on eugenics and humanism, and founded humanist associations – atheistic/agnostic groups who considered Darwin’s explanation of the evolution of species to have “made creator deities redundant” and obsolete.
Disbelief in God means morals are relative, and therefore meaningless, because there is no standard by which to judge morality and no Judge to hold us to account. Huxley believed that people are simply animals, the products of chance mutations from slime. And he said, “The philosophy of meaninglessness was essentially an instrument of liberation. The liberation we desired was… from a certain system of morality… because it interfered with our sexual freedom.”
Godlessness. Futility. Meaninglessness. That’s what we come to if we are merely a bundle of molecules assembled by chance. We are led to a worldview which does away with absolutes, because nothing transcends the material world. Truth is relative. It is inside one’s own head. And thus, “man is the measure of all things”.
This “humanism”, which has become the default worldview in a post-Christian Western Civilization, elevates humanity above our Maker. It is indeed an arrogant tendency of mankind – going all the way back to the confusion of languages and dispersion from the Tower of Babel. From the dispersion that occurred there, the Bible says the earth became filled with people. Indeed, the ancient names of people-groups coming from the sons of Noah attest to the truth presented in the “Table of Nations” of Genesis 10. And migration patterns are being confirmed by genetic studies to have arisen from Mesopotamia to “fill the earth”, from dates that correspond with precision to biblical timetables! This is another corroboration of the Bible by modern science! (See the description of the recent book Traced: Human DNA’s Big Surprise in our offer at the end of this letter).
Biblical Creation is the truth that gives a unity to all of life. It is foundational to Christianity, to real meaning and morality. While the fruit of “liberating meaninglessness” was a sexual revolution and thriving drug culture, which continues to this day.
Abortion became legal in all of the United States in January 1973 on the heels of the sexual revolution through the faulty science and faulty legal footing of the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision. Communist Russia had already become the first country in the world to officially legalize abortion in all circumstances - in 1920! With atheism as the official religion of the State, it should be no surprise that Marxist societies have led the world in extinguishing human life – the image of God – both in the womb and out; a culture of death vs a culture of life. Indeed, evolution “intellectually fulfills atheism”, as has been observed by crusading atheists.
And Darwin’s theory was used by the Marxists to bolster their theory. As we “evolve” supposedly from lesser biological organisms, so too our morals and ethics are also evolving. And thus it is now called “progressive”. Karl Marx was famously eulogized at his funeral by his partner Friedrich Engels, who said, “Just as Darwin discovered the law of evolution in organic nature, so Marx discovered the law of evolution in human history”.
In our day, Western Civilization has digested plenty of cultural Marxism – and is living out its bad fruit. Those in charge of the schools teach “tolerance” without critique for progressive values, and equality of outcome (“equity” and “social justice”). Recall that the 1963 Congressional Record listing of 45 declared communist goals included the following, among other eerily accurate cultural transformations underway: #17, #25-27. “Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current communist propaganda… Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography (across all media)… Present homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity as normal, natural, healthy… Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with ‘social’ religion. Discredit the Bible…”
The Bible warns us against the influence of false doctrines in our midst, as it links ancient Israel’s exile and captivity by Assyrians and Babylonians to severe sins. These include idolatry, disobedience, and specifically child sacrifice. Kings Ahaz and Manasseh sacrificed their sons (1 Kings 21; 2 Kings 16-17), and Israelites offered their children to foreign gods like Molech. Psalm 106:34-39 describes how the Israelites “mingled among the heathen” instead of destroying the Canaanites as commanded. They lived among them, adopting their idolatrous practices like sacrificing children “to the demons”.
Is not legalized abortion similar? Churches still observe Sanctity of Human Life Sunday each January. Roe v Wade was finally overturned in June 2022, and the authority to ban or regulate abortion was given to the states. But since then, the number of abortions has increased slightly nationwide, though dropping precipitously in the many states that have restricted or banned them. Meaninglessness, “tolerance”, value relativism, and humanism have taken their toll. And we very much have a job to do to continue to “proclaim evidence for truth” - for the Creator who has made human life very special and sanctified it! And Who also saves us from our sins through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ the Lord, as we confess and repent to Him.
To the followers of Christ, life is officially and celebratedly “meaningful”. Our God is the author of absolute truth. And friends, the Bible remains undefeated. We invite your prayers and support as we expand our broadcast and media outreach worldwide!
