When the popular media announce the findings of scientists, their conclusions generally sound quite certain. The general public is thereby given the impression that science has the answer to every question. The fact is, there are still many mysteries that continue to resist scientific explanation.
When meteors hit the Earth’s atmosphere, they generate friction, get hot and normally begin to glow at an altitude of about 62 miles. Incoming meteors above a certain size can be tracked and their speed checked by radar. When reports of meteors beginning to glow as high as 124 miles – twice the height they should – began coming in, scientists at first dismissed them. It is true that the atmosphere can expand when the sun is active, but it never expands that much. Then Russian cosmonauts and later astronauts began reporting the too-high glow surrounding their reentering spacecraft. During reentry one night, astronauts reported that the glow that shouldn’t have been there at all reached the intensity of daylight! Scientists are stumped over the cause of the glow. Some have suggested that it might have something to do with magnetic disturbances in the ionosphere.
The Bible is our only source of absolutely certain knowledge. Thousands of years before man learned that the atmosphere had different layers, the Bible not only mentioned those layers, but taught that God had designed the atmosphere to have layers.
Amos 9:6 “It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven…The LORD is his name.”
